| stuck to 960x600 with 3Dfuzion FX5500 FatKat 16:29:47 |
| | I just installed a 3DFuzion FX5500 PCI card on my Dell Dimension 3000. The card works okay so far - I haven't really tried to do all that much with it. After the headaches taht otehrs have reported, I was ahppy enough when the display worked after install. Anyway, when trying to increase resolution to 1024x768 using the display control in control panel, two things happen - first, the display devolves into spinninmg bands of blac/white/gray lines - it's like bad reception on old TV's. Hitting "Enter" returns the display back to normal, but also re-sets the res to 960x600.
Is there any workaround for this?
What other information might be relevant to the problem?
suggestions warmly appreciated.

| Overlay Redder Than Desktop Ed Light 11:30:54 |
| | When I look at the same video in Windows Media Player or Cyberlink Power Director it's redder when it's in the overlay. MSI 6600GT, nvidia 91.31 drivers. I adjusted everything to neutral in the classic panel.
Any thoughts?

| win98se shutdown hangs at blank screen/blinking cursor Fred 04:06:55 |
| | Situation is this -
Old computer was running Windows 98 (first edition) with no problems. Recently replaced OS with Windows 98 Second Edition. Now computer cannot be shutdown. After clicking to shutdown, I get none of the normal screens like "windows is shutting down" etc. - All I get is a blank screen with the blinking cursor in top left corner. The computer has hung at this point and needs to be switched off at the power button. The computer will still restart OK. The problem appears to be the video driver is incompatible with Windows 98 Second Edition. I worked this out because if I remove the video driver and replace it with standard VGA driver, the computer will then shut down normally. Installing the most current Windows 98 driver (Support from manufacturer for this video card ended March 2005) does not fix the problem. I found some patch on Microsoft's website for shutdown problems in Windows 98 Second Edition http://www.microsoft.com/windows98/downloads/contents/WURecommended/S_WUFeatured/Win98SE/Default.asp This does nothing to change the problem.
The video card is an Nvidia Riva TNT2 M64. Motherboard is a Lucky Star 6ABX2V - This Taiwan manufacturer abandoned the motherboard making business some years ago and no longer offers any support at all for this product, and now deals only with web hosting as far as I can tell (the site is non-english), so no help with new motherboard drivers. The Award BIOS is updated to the current version. CPU is 400MHz Pentium II slot 1. There is 320Mb RAM.
Anyone know how or if this can be fixed?

| Man fights off muti hackers Wdsdyschild 22:44:23 |
| | A 35-year-old man has escaped with minor injuries after three men and a woman tried to hack off his body parts for muti in Hamurage village, Limpopo. Johannesburg - A 35-year-old man escaped with minor injuries after three men and a woman tried to hack off his body parts for muti in Hamurage village, Limpopo police said on Tuesday.
Captain Mashudu Malelo said the man was hitchhiking from Hamurage village to Tshivilwi village when a white Toyota Corolla stopped.
He got inside the car, where the four occupants attacked him with pepper spray.
The man was dragged into the Tshivilwi bushes where his assailants deliberated on which body parts to cut off first.
One took out pliers to cut off the man's tongue but another wanted to start with the left hand first. The woman was busy throwing bones on ground while they attempted to cut their victim into pieces.
"The man somehow managed to kick one of them in the groin and escaped. He ran to the nearest hospital where he alerted the police."
He sustained minor injuries to his head and hands and was recovering in Tshilibizini Hospital.
No arrests have yet been made and police were investigating, Malelo said.

| Power requirements Guest 15:19:20 |
| | I'm a moderate gamer, who has been playing a lot of Battlefield 2 lately.
My current PC is an HP Pavillion with a measly 1.6 Ghz P4. I had a GeForce 2 400MX card, upgraded to a FX 5200, and recently bought a very cheap used ATI 9600 Pro (which is an improvement over the 5200, but I still have to run BF2 on low everything). One of the restrictions on this system is the 250W power supply. Many of the faster budget cards want 300 or more watts to run.
I'd like to keep the old comp intact for my kids.
I am looking at a new comp, and found a refurbed PC with great specs (athlon 3500, 1GB RAM etc) and a PCIe slot free. I have been looking at budget choices, from the 7300 GS to the 6600 and 6800 series. But many of the manufacturers (been looking at XFX) recommend a 350 or more PS. The new comp I am looking at has 300 watt.
It feels like I am back in the same place. Some manufacturers don't have any listing for power requirements, but I don't want to make assumptions. Am I doomed to pay more and buy a barebones kit, so that I can get a decent PS? Do I try to upgrade a proprietary case and do I trust the low end 400 watts power supplies that are on special?
Any suggestions or comments welcome
James

| Can't seem to hook MY TV up to my Video Card Mo Mukri 13:00:23 |
| | Hello,
I have an ATI Radeon 9600 256MB Video Card. I originally have a CRT monitor that is hooked up to the card. I recently tried hooking up a LCD TV as a secondary monitor to the card using the S-Video output, but though the LCD Tv shows the same image as the monitor, when I try to use the LCD as an extended monitor it turns the video on the LCD Monitor off(though the CRT is still on)... I have to manually go back and turn the option for Dual Display on again. Also when the dual display is on, I can't view video on the LCD though the CRT seems to work fine. Please help this is driving me crazy!!!

| Arctic Cooling Silencer 5 rev 2 for X850XT Pigdos 02:11:36 |
| | I've looked athe Arctic Cooling's website and it doesn't look like there is any provision for cooling the RAM located on the backside (opposite the GPU) of the PCB. Does the Arctic Cooling Silencer 5 rev. 2 only cool the front-side BGA RAM?

| ATI Radeon are rubbish - official. Bazzer Smith 00:52:29 |
| | I tried to get in contact with ATI Radeon to get information about their products however unless you already have a product and a serial number it is impossible to contact them.
I wonder how much their sales director earns in a year?
I think I will buy a share in the company, attend the AGM and demand the useless fooker(s) be sacked.

| quick performance question Matt 21:09:14 |
| | Which would give me greater gaming performance... adding a second 6800GT for SLI or stepping up from an AMD Athlon 64 3500 to a AMD Athlon 64 4000? It's only around a $60 difference in price.
