SunSolve: Severity level 1 is no longer available online Andreas F. Borchert 16:31:48
I just wanted to open a case regarding a dead StorEdge 3320 via
SunSolve, just to find out that severity 1 problems can no longer be
submitted through the online site, just severity values 2 and 3 are
offered. Customers wanting to open a severity 1 case are redirected to a
page that lists a phone number and an email address.

The problem is that when I open a call through a phone call, I am
unable to access that case online through SunSolve, which would make it
convenient for me to attach log files, add comments etc, all this in
time before a Sun engineer takes time to review this.

In summary, it will take more time to communicate severity 1 cases as
cases of severity 2 or 3.

Andreas.

"can't fork" in global zone Markus D hr 22:40:05
 System:
DL585 (4 x DualCore AMD Opteron)
48 GB RAM
50 GB Swap

As soon as the total number of processes reaches 1022, the system
"hangs", no answer from "prstat" in the global zone, all zones stop
working too for some seconds, the system appears unresponsive.

If a zone is halted and the number of processes drops below 1022, it
behaves normally again.

Project files are set up for the individual zones (not in the global
zone), FSS is activated.

We use that system to consolidate SAP systems and more systems are to be
added.

The only rctl that is added on zone creation is

add rctl
set name=zone.cpu-shares
add value (priv=privileged,limit=20,action=none)
end

Do I need to configure something in /etc/system (or anywhere else on the
global zone) to enable the system to have a total number of processes >
1024?

Any hint is appreciated!

Added additional harddrive to Sun Blade 150 Guest 22:17:52
I have a SunBlade 150 running Solaris 8 that had partitions that were
all nearly full. I have added an additional 120GB drive to the
machine. I haven't initialized the disk yet. What commands do I need
to run to initialize the disk and partition it, and what strategy
should I use to utilize the additional disk space for existing and
future file storage needs? How can the new disk space be utilized in
the existing filesystem?

Locking down USB ports on Ultra45 (Solaris 9) BertieBigBollox@gmail.com 19:15:53
OK. Can't completely turn off the USB ports because, of course, the
keyboard and mouse are USB.

However, one of our customers has got a requirment that USB be
'controlled' or locked down. Any ideas if this is possible or if there
is any software available to allow this to happen?

 Hello -

Having problems with Sun Management Center 4.0 on a SunFire v890
(Workgroup server).

In particular, the Config-Reader4uvh is not working correctly. The
agent.log shows the following messages :

" rcr4u291: Cannot i18n key for rcr4u291"

We've had success installing SunMC clients on all other Sun platforms
but the v880/890 are killing me!

Any help is massively appreciated.

Sudo to RBAC and init.d to SMF Gary Mills 23:32:47
We're upgrading a server from Solaris 9 to Solaris 10. This would be
a good opportunity to convert our init.d scripts into SMF services.
Creating a manifest and a method is relatively easy. However, there
are a group of users who use sudo to stop and start the process as
root. How do we give them the ability to run svcadm to enable or
disable the service on Solaris 10? Can this be done in the manifest
or the method script? We can't modify the executable itself.

Has anyone else tried to mount this image with lofiadm only to be told
that the file is not of the hsfs filetype? Image A mounts just fine,
but image B gives me this message.

Thanks
