| | QuickTime Alternative 1.74
QuickTime Alternative will allow you to play QuickTime files without having to install the official QuickTime Player. All QuickTime formats (.mov .qt .3gp etc.) are supported, including streaming content and QuickTime content that is embedded in webpages.
Some advantages compared to QuickTime player:
* Quick and easy install * It's easy to make an unattended installation * No background processes * Use a player of your own choice * Low on resources * Smaller size
It is highly recommended to uninstall all existing QuickTime related software, like QuickTime Player, before installing. This way your system stays clean and potential problems will be avoided.
Version 1.74 features:
- Media Player Classic [version 6.4.9.0 rev 611] - QuickTime Codecs [version 7.0.4.80] - QuickTime plugin for Internet Explorer - QuickTime plugin for Opera/Mozilla/Netscape - Extra plugins for QuickTime - QuickTime DirectShow parser - QuickTime DirectShow decoder wrapper - CoreAVC - CoreAAC
Works only on Windows 2000/XP/2003/XP64.
Changelog 1.73 -> 1.74:
- Updated QuickTime components to version 7.1.0.210 - Improved .mov downloader - IMPORTANT: Windows 2003/XP64 users should run WindowsUpdate before installing. Patch KB921398 fixes an issue that causes QuickTime to crash on those systems.

| QuickBooks Tax Tables - Are they avaiable free or low cost? ZechMin 21:49:46 |
| | Hi,
I have QuickBooks 2002. I have never used the payroll before but am now self-employed and looking to update the tax tables but don't want to subscribe to a payroll service at $199 a year.
Is there some way to update the tax tables for free or one low cost fee?
Thanks, Lehava Ent.

| Q '06 Edit 'Gotcha' Walt Bilofsky 20:42:17 |
| | Quicken Premier H&B '06 has taken to crashing every time I download a transaction with a new security. (Any suggestions would be appreciated. I already validated.)
The workaround is to create the new security before accepting the downloaded transaction. Then I can match it to the downloaded security and Quicken doesn't crash.
The last time I did this, I confess I used rather a naughty name for the security. Then after matching and accepting the transaction I edited and renamed it.
However, the original, naughty name still appeared in the Payee field of the transaction in the linked checking account.
When I tried to change it in the linked checking account, Quicken gave the error message "You should make this change from the investment account to avoid losing transaction detail."
But when I change the security in the investment account, it doesn't change the transaction in the linked checking account. The naughty name is still there.
Does anyone know how to get rid of the naughty name (short of deleting the whole transaction and reentering it)? I think that's the only way.
I've learned my lesson. No more naughty security names. From now on I'll only use obscene comments about Intuit.

| What freeware creates thumbnail photo html gallery WITH LINKS Barb 20:40:53 |
| | What WinXP freeware do you use to create local HTML galleries (with easily clickable web links to the larger local photographs)?
This Windows photo-gallery freeware needs to do only two basic tasks: - Given a directory of large originals - create smaller thumbnails - Create a local index.html linking the thumbnails to the larger originals
Here's what failed!
IRFANVIEW: Googling, I find some advocated Irfanview. But, while Irfanview is a great fast photo viewer and while Irfanview easily creates thumbnails, I couldn't figure out how to force Irfanview to output a simple index.html of those thumbnails which points to the larger originals. http://www.irfanview.com
JALBUM: Some suggested JAlbum in older threads, but that also failed me (YMMV). Apparently JAlbum requires Sun Java on WinXP. Unfortunately, the entire hellish Sun Java installation killed my system (the whole thing was a royal mess); so I had to delete the whole assemblage (wasting hours in that process). Obviously JAlbum isn't a recommended (by me anyway) alternative solution ever again. http://jalbum.net
YoPoW: Newer googled threads suggested "Your Photos on the Web" as the best Windows photograph JPG web index.html generator. YoPoW has a nice & simple wizard so I had a local web page in minutes and, best of all, YoPoW gave you the third option of having a third set of photos linked to the thumbnails. a) Your huge originals b) Your 100 pixel thumbnails (settable to any desired size) c) And, an additional 800 pixel medium size I liked YoPoW, but, oh my gosh, was the index.html it created miserably difficult to navigate. It drove me crazy that the user interface of YoPoW was so absolutely easy to use but the resulting web page was torture for the user to navigate. http://home.hccnet.nl/s.j.francke/yopow/yopow.htm
Given that this simple failed quest has now consumed a half day, I'd like to ask the following two questions of experts smarter than I am.
QUESTION 1: Can Irfanview create HTML linking thumbnails to originals? If so, how?
QUESTION 2: If not, what Windows freeware program does these three simple tasks: 0. Given a directory of large originals ... 1. It generates a directory of local thumbnails ... 2. And then creates a reasonably easy to navigate local index.html ... 3. Which points to the larger originals (or a medium sized copy).
Thank you in advance for your advice, barb

| Memorized Transaction/Auto Fill Jerry 20:20:39 |
| | I'm trying to get Quickbooks to autofill the account type when entering a payee into the check register. I have many payees, such as credit card payments, that always have the same account type.
When I'm in the check register, I can type in the Payee, but Quickbooks doesn't autofill the account type. I believe Quicken had this feature, but not able to get it to work in Quickbooks.

| Anyone interested: Manage Quicken Backup Directory Files Jim 18:29:07 |
| | PURPOSE: MANAGE QUICKEN BACKUP DIRECTORY FILES, i.e., MQBUDF.
I have written a script in Python that meets the following ====================================================== REQUIREMENTS: 1) Read in all file names from Quicken backup directory. 2) Produce a list of all Quicken backup file names with date. 3) Keep all: a) Backup files created within the last 38 days. b) Month-end backup files for last 18 months. c) Year-end backup files for last 10 years. NOTE: If MQBUDF finds no backups in the last 38 days then MQBUDF will revise options file "options.jsc" to show a keep date that will be equal to the most recent backup set. 4) Delete all other Quicken backup files (by request only). 5) ONLY Quicken backup files can be in the Quicken backup directory. 6) Quicken backups must be created within +/- 7 days of each month-end. 7) Quicken backup file names must be in the following format: Name_yyyymmdd.ext. 8) "Python MQBUDF.PY" command-line options are as follows: a) /? Outputs the command-line options syntax, i.e., "Python MQBUDF.py /?". b) /D Dumps Quicken backup directory information into a tab delimited text file "QDump.txt". c) Drive:\Path to Quicken backup files, e.g., G:\QUICKEN\BACKUP. 9) Place backup file names that can be deleted into file DQfiles.txt for viewing. Requires a procedure when file DQfiles.txt gets too large that it will remove the first few records. Maximum file size should be about 48K, i.e., about 1,000 records or 140 backup days. 10) Have a file called options.jsc set the default path and/or numeric digits however, the command-line option will override this default path. Also, keep special backup file dates, that are not the regular keep dates, in this options.jsc file, e.g., "Keep: 20050615". Plus set AutoDelete to Yes, in order to automatically delete the non-keep backup files, e.g., AutoDelete: Yes. However, if using command-line arguments then turn off AutoDelete. ====================================================== If anyone is interested please contact me.
Thanks, Jim

| Q07 P - Funkiness with 0ne-Step Update.. Fox Michaels 17:12:57 |
| | Hey all. Recently got Q07 Personal, and imported my file in. (From 2006 Home & Business) The import worked fine, as it reported.
Once that was done, one bank (E*Trade Bank) was Web Connect only. Suddenly, it says that it's available with one-step. So, I get it setup. Now, *every time* it tries to download, it gives the "OL-221-A" error. (Which gives no technical info whatsoever.) Told it to 'forget' the settings and re-set it up, to no avail.
Another account (with E*Trade) says that it's available for one-step - never was before - and when I enter in info, it says that ''all accounts have been setup with this bank''. Yet it keeps asking me to set it up at the bottom of the register, and I never set it up in the first place.
Thoughts on these? Cheers, Me.

| Problem with Tray Wizard program Waaaaaah! 15:38:07 |
| | I really like this program for organizing my system tray icons, but for some reason it doesn't allow one of my Winamp plugins to be shown (it's called "Advanced Controls" and it's a small Play, Stop, Next/Previous Song icons for the system tray).
If I exit Tray Wizard, it works fine.
Is there anything I can do to Tray Wizard to make it accept this?
