I could talk about NPP style quests, new AI, a monster and artifact list rewritten from scratch, the skill system, researchable and implantable steamware, redesigned information screens [Ey] style, new pits, a quickmenu, new help, and detailed FAQ's or a couple other dozen things I could mention.
I could paste all the unsolicited praise Steamband has received while it was in beta. Comments like "I just want to say that this is absolutely the best variant I have ever played" and "I started playing and couldn't stop!", but you'll see those and the rest of them when you go to download it.
Some of you may remember how strange and different Steamband was and may be wary of trying it. And it's true - Steamband is not Angband with different monsters. Steamband is a game, much like Angband, that attempts to correct many of Angband's flaws while maintaining a strong focused theme. I'd like to think I've created a modern variant that solves such problems as endless scumming for resistances, interminable stat gain, challenge coming from avoiding insta-kills rather than strategic play, and dozens of others along with a rewritten help files, detailed information screens, and FAQ's to help new players acclimate to the changes made in Steamband.
Is it balanced? Well, Automata Rogue's seem to be somewhat easier when compared to other classes (but what do you expect from robot ninjas?) but it is certainly balanced enough to play. And who knows, like [V] in about ten years we may have it's level of balance.
