I've a "small" problem at the moment with Demogorgon - all of my own making I hasten to add right at the start. My current Wiz-Elf-Mal-Cha was doing a bit of sacrificing hoping to pick up a few free spellbooks and artifacts before heading off to kill Rodney and ascend. Unfortunately I accidentally sac'ed a Green Elf bringing in Yeenoghu. A couple of turns later a wayward exploding sphere made Yeenoghu angry and he very quickly gated in Demogorgon.
I'm now in a cycle of becoming Ill/Stunned and casting cure sickness. However I'm nearing the end of my power and Demogorgon is still laying the smackdown on me. I've wands of lighning in my inventory but being stunned I can't engrave the E word successfully. I also have a wand of digging but I guess that Demo will follow me down through the hole.

I'm also wearing speed boots.
Any suggestions on how to survive? I've had a look through the Demo FAQ but all the suggestions seem to be predicated on not being stunned - ie thinking about this more carefully than I did and planning an escape before getting caught in this vicious cycle.

No sources of teleport? Blessed unihorn?

Being blind also will cause you to screw up Elbereth. By my calculations you have a 10% chance to get it right while stunned and 39% while blind.>

I had a similar situation in the Sanctum in a recent game, only I was burdened as well. I opted for the blessed unihorn. I got lucky and it cured the sickness and the stunning and then I got a breather when Demogorgon took a fancy for the priest's amulet and I could reorganize. There was a recent YAAP where the poster relied entirely on his blessed unihorn while fighting Demogorgon.
Don't neglect other healing opportunities, prayer and uncursed !oEH and FH, even a eucalyptus leaf. Prayer might cure the illness and stunning at once.
I tried teleporting him away and gave up after about three tries, but later got it to work in wiz mode. A ?oEarth might save you here. A ?oSM might as well.
Demogorgon's speed is 15 and you are faster than that, I forget, either 18 or 20 with speed boots. The point is, you'll sometimes get a free move to cure and get down an Elbereth. If you ever get down the first Elbereth, you'll have the advantage. If you are cured but still stunned you might try moving, if this is when you get your free turn you can escape and if you blunder into him maybe he will go to the stairs to heal. -- Wes The early bird may get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

I would not recommend the eucalyptus leaf, except if you have no other means. It may knock you unconscious as any food, and then you are dead.
If you have a blessed unicorn horn, you should always use it in the first attempt to heal yourself and cast cure sickness only in the second, i.e. only if the unicorn horn does not work. (Can one cast cure sickness successfully while stunned?) If the unicorn horn does not work, don't waste a swing at Demogorgon, heal yourself immediately. (Maybe, you could still safely do so, but I am not sure.)
As soon as you are not stunned, write Elbereth. Then, if you have a (blessed) scroll of earth, read it. Demogorgon will wander off after being hit by a boulder, if he cannot attack you anyway. You should now have bought precious time. Alternatively, once you have engraved Elbereth, levitate, pound on Demo till he goes to the stairs, unlevitate, and dig yourself through to the next level. This also gives you time.
Once you are in good shape again, read a cursed scroll of teleport to get to the level above him. Go down the stairs unburdened, with either a silver saber or an artifact effective against him or a cockatrice corpse. I don't know whether he will always displace you from the stairs or whether there is a chance that you have the stairs for yourself. If you hit him with a cockatrice corpse, it does not make any difference. If you want to hit him with s.th. else, you should make sure you are on the stairs and either drop a scroll of scare monster (if you had that you probably would have done so already , this is independent of being stunned!) or write Elbereth again. If you are not on the stairs, you have to decide whether to chase him upstairs (probably the easiest way, as you separate him from Yeenoghu and, if the level above is a teleport level, you can teleport to the stairs immediately after moving upstairs yourself) or to try to gain the stairs while you are fighting him. Again you should use Elbereth generously, if you can.

IIRC you have a chance to do so. I suggest to try; it's the best alternative you have.

No sources of teleport? Blessed unihorn?
Firstly thanks for all the suggestions. No teleport but an uncursed horn. I've managed to escape - Yeenoghu decided to get back in on the action and Demo must have gotten caught in the crossfire because he teleported back to the upstairs. One unicorn healing later I zap down with my wand of digging to freedom. I'm now luring a cockatrice back to the upstairs to kill him and go stoning the two boyos upstairs!
The lesson learned is be more prepared and more careful in future.

For the wand of digging you must dig while Demogorgon is not next to you, which is rather hard.

You can take two or three hits from Demogorgon before needing to cure (more if you have some "oLS).

Nope, there is no guaranteed way to cure stunning in one turn (evil grin). After eating a lizard corpse (fully consuming that is, one bite is not enough as with stoning), the timeout is reduced to two turns; obviously, that's fairly worthless
Prayer cannot cure confusion either, but it can cure blindness.
Don't use an eucalyptus leaf if you have another way out: if it is rotten you'll die.
I tried teleporting him away and gave up after about three> tries, but later got it to work in wiz mode. A ?oEarth might> save you here. A ?oSM might as well.
Teleporting only works if you get the free turn.
Earth is very good if Demogorgon is not next to you at the moment. Otherwise you would have to 'F'-direction until you hit Demogorgon and he teleports away, so you will need some healing potions.
Dropping a scroll of scare monster is excellent if you have one.
Another (rather greedy) option is to wish for a rubber chicken. You'll need (real-life) luck to hit him and you'll also need a fair amount of sickness cures.
Note that wishing while stunned works normally.
Demogorgon's speed is 15 and you are faster than that, I> forget, either 18 or 20 with speed boots.
Not exactly right. When you are fast or very fast, your speed is somewhat random.
