I understand that these are part of a larger series. Could someone let me know what the name is for all of the games that make up the series (I think there is 5 as of this date)

Series is called Project Gipf and the other games are called Gipf, Dvonn and Tamsk. You can find out more about them at http://www.gipf.com/

These games are part of what is called "The Gipf Project"
The games are (in order of release): Gipf, Tamsk, Zertz, Dvonn, and Yinsh.
Yinsh is the 6th game in the series, but was released before the 5th one for some reason.
As far as I know, they are all still in print. Used ones pop up on eBay every so often.
The games don't physically inter-connect, just some of the play concepts.
They are great games, at least the ones I've played (Tamsk and Yinsh.) My main problem is they are two-player games, and we usually get 4-6 players together when we game.
Hope this helps! Dave

Steve
I played Yinsh, I think. It was fun! That's the one with the rings, right?

It's the one with the rings and the flippy over pieces, yes.

Use of a Potential (basically just a GIPF playing piece with some special movement or ability) /can/ be made contingent on any challenge. The suggested challenge is a game of TAMSK for a TAMSK Potential, ZERTZ for a ZERTZ Potential and so on, but it could be a toss of a coin, a game of Risk or anything else. What happens in the master game of GIPF has no bearing on the sub-game, and the inter-connectedness is only from GIPF played with Potentials to the subsequent series games, not between any GIPF series games. Also note that there is no need to have DVONN is you want to play GIPF with DVONN Potentials, and so on. The DVONN Potential uses stacking as a special ability within GIPF, as DVONN uses a lot of stacking, but you don't need any know anything about DVONN (even its existence) to use the DVONN Potentials.
I like the Potentials as ways to make GIPF itself more fun and interesting, but the inter-connecting of games is still a bit contrived IMHO. You could "interconnect" Monopoly and Trivial Pursuit by having to answer a Yellow question before you could buy a Yellow property, for another example of how the interconnect is done.

Because the 5th one isn't finished ye!. In fact, as of the release of YINSH it may not even have been started, but YINSH has sufficient in common with GIPF in its overall setup and concepts that it struck the designer (Kris Burm) as a good place to close the cycle, and he intends to add in another game that makes more sense as the 5th if you look at all 6 together. Or something like that...

TAMSK may well not be. You might still find it about, but this time last year Kris Burm posted the following at gipf.com:
"Not so good news: we ran completely out of TAMSK and GIPF Set 1. One can still find a game of TAMSK at certain places (e.g. in some e-shops), but I doubt whether it is still possible to track down a GIPF Set 1 somewhere. We are really sorry for that. But there is a reason, of course. The demand for GIPF Sets 1 and 2 is very modest - to say the least. So, we have to work with very limited editions and that makes them quite expensive. And if they are expensive, then even less people are intereted in them. Any way, we are currently assemling 250 new Sets 1, so they should become available again in February, the latest in March.
TAMSK is a bigger problem - unfortunately. As most of you will know: TAMSK is considered the weaker game of Project GIPF (some - amongst which I count myself - will not agree with that, but that is of no importance here). On top of that, it is also by far the most expensive game of the series. These are the two reasons why TAMSK is selling slow. Now, if TAMSK is an expensive game to buy, then it is also an expensive game to produce. We are trying to set up a reprint, but the infomation we have gathered so far is not making things more easy: TAMSK would become even more expensive than it already was. So, no idea yet what we are going to do. For the moment TAMSK remains an open question... Hopefully we'll be able to tell you more after the fair in NГјrnberg. "
They are great games, at least the ones I've played (Tamsk and Yinsh.)
I have all 5 of the present ones, plus the Potential sets to extend GIPF. All very good if two player pure skill abstracts float your boat.
