nvidia-driver woes

Guest 29 May 2005 02:55:03
xorg loads fine as long as I use the "nv" driver; but soon as I switch
to the "nvidia" driver I get this weird patern of vertical lines on
about a third of the screen.

Please check my info and help me see where I am going wrong.

My monitor is res 1280x800 (lcd)

when I kldload nvidia I get
nvidia0: <GeForce4 440 Go 64M> mem 0xe2000000-0xe2ffffff,
0xf0000000-0xf7ffffff,0xf8000000-0xf807ffff irq 19 at device 0.0 on
pci1
nvidia0: [GIANT-LOCKED]

When I run Xorg -config
I get:
carmen#Xorg -configure

X Window System Version 6.8.2

Xorg detected your mouse at device /dev/sysmouse.
Please check your config if the mouse is still not
operational, as by default Xorg tries to autodetect
the protocol.

Your xorg.conf file is /root/xorg.conf.new

To test the server, run 'X -config /root/xorg.conf.new'

=====
the behavior using this config file and my own file that has run fine
on this equipment in the past are identical.

Is there a reason why the nvidia driver appears twice in that list?

unknown; but they both disappear if I deinstall nvidia-driver. They both
come back when I install it again.
