Newby to webcams - in UK

 Hi all,

I am wanting to set up a webcam on the home PC and am looking for advice on a
good setup. I know I need a webcam (!) but not sure if I need a card for the PC
or they use the USB (or serial / parallel ports) and software although I assume
that comes with the cam if not in Windows (W98SE)

I have Maplins, PC-World, Comet and Curries all close, but would like
suggestions on which cameras to consider and which to avoid.
Also which features to optimise and which to not worry about

The Internet connection is 1Mb so refresh rates I guess would be limited by
most others' connection speeds.

I guess this is a very common request, so if there is a website that explains
how to get started I will read through that.
