So far over basic use ohh say 100 pictures or so. With not much flash usage say maybe 10 shots? @ .3 megapixel / 64 iso. (newbie here so bare with me)
How many days say at this setting of very heavy use could fully charged nimh 2500's last ?
Also when the power runs low. The camera bring sup that battery symbol. If I am ready to put fresh ones in. DO I need to discharge the low power ones before I recharge them ?

| Video recording John61 10:47:24 |
| | I'm buying a digital camera, prefer one with better movie recording.
Among the specs of a digital camera, what decide video recording length? That's the difference between Internal Memory and Included Digital Media Size. I saw some of them have Zero memory, why? Can we get an rough idea about how long we can record video from any specs?
Thanks,
John

| Video Recording Andrei Dimofte 02:25:40 |
| | Hi John
I saw some of them have Zero memory, why? Because: 1 The marketing issue --> Having a big internal storage increases the price of the camera 2 Storage devices usually brake down after some time ... and when this happens you cannot replace it because it's internal and you'll be walking with some useless extra size and weight
With the current technology on the market, the internal memory of the camera doesn't cover the necessities of the user...that's why most producers either don't use any internal storage or a small one. It's something like a backup for a photographer in the case he has no working external card and he really need to take a shoot or two till he goes to the nearest shop to buy another external card.
Among the specs of a digital camera, what decide video recording length? The video recording length depends on the codec used by the camera (that's for coding the image and audio) you are buying and on the capacity of the storage media.
Can we get an rough idea about how long we can record video from any > specs? Usually the specs don't give you the time but some review websites do (e.g. http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/cameraList.php). For a Canon S2 having an AVI video encoding the total recording time having a resolution of 640x480 and a card of 1 GB is around 9 minutes.
The conclusion is...if you want Video buy a Video camera. If you want Photo and sometimes Video probably a digital camera with a 2 GB card will satisfy your needs.
Greets, Andrei

| Digital Camera as Webcam??? Gpg 17:57:11 |
| | Is there any point in my exploring the idea of using my Canon A80 Powershot digital camera as a webcam? After all, one can diplay view-finder image on a TV screen. I suspect the answer to be 'No' because I have not been able to find anything on this on the web or on this newsgroup.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

| night vision with LED's Guest 16:33:37 |
| | Can someone give me a little info on what night vision webcams are? They have 3 LED's on them. I know what an LED is, of course. I just don't know what night vision is. and what the LED's have to do with the camera. Can you take pictures in the dark, and still be able to see someone?
thanx for any info you can give me.

| Transfering photos camera-phone to PC -- Motorola L6 GSM John Curtiss 04:41:06 |
| | I just got a 3rd party USB cable for the Motorola L6 GSM phone with driver CD. (The cable/CD is from Insten, MOT C350 "Sync & Transfer", www.insten.com.)
The driver installed smoothly and shows up at My Computer> Properties as OK under USB devices.
But when I go to Windows Explorer, I don't see the camera like I do with other USB devices -- like other cameras, flash drive, ext hard drive, etc., all of which appear right away.
Has anyone run across and solved this problem? Or, how do other folks transfer their photos from their camera-phone via USB to PC? What about any other drivers?
Thanks in advance.
John Curtiss

| D Link DCS 5300 Help Needed Jarre_115 16:20:15 |
| | Hi, I`m having problems getting my DCS 5300g webcam up and running, I`ve installed the camera using the software that came with it and the camera is detected. When I click on a link to view the cam I just get a page cannot be displayed error each time. I tried connecting the camera directly to my pc using a crossed ethernet cable but I still get the same error. I`ve also tried resetting the camera back to defaults as suggested by d link but no joy. If anyone has any ideas on what I can do to fix this I`d really appreciate it. Thanks in advance for your help Mark

| Photo Printing John 23:31:28 |
| | Hi. I just wondered if anyone has used the Photo Printing service with ASDA and if so if its any good?
The pricing seems to be pretty cheap at ??7-50 for 150 photos. ??7 for 100, ??5 for 50.
I am just wondering though what the heck "quality lustre paper" means exactly? Does anyone know what type of paper specifically ASDA uses? E.g. what manufacturer and weight of paper?
I'd also appreciate any other recommendation for good places to get lots of digital photos printed that doesn't cost a lot.
Cheers
John

| HDTV recorded but not playable in other PCs? Guest 17:38:21 |
| | I got an HP Entertainment center (z556), and it can record both SDTV and HDTV (over the air). The recorded program plays fine in the HP system, but if I made a data DVD with the dvr-ms file, and play it in another Dell notebook with Media Center XP, the image is smeared.... (some part of the tv image spreaded over the center of the image)....
and then i tried playing it on other PCs... which I think with the newest Window Media Player, can play dvr-ms. And it either has no display or crash....
oh well, we are on the edge of the technology shift... does any one know a way to play it properly?
(i tried copying the file to the hard drive first... and the image is about 720 x 360 and i don't see any delay for video rendering, so probably it is not a speed problem but just the image is smeared.)

| Cyclic Redundancy Check problem Kevin Heneghan 16:31:24 |
| | Hello,
I wonder if anyone can help me.
I am trying to install a Sweex webcam, but when I get to the last part of the installation, I get an error message saying "data error - cyclic redundancy check error" and the software will not install. I have tried two different webcams (Sweex and Logitech) and get the same error. The USB port is functioning and I've tried removing all other USB devices before trying to install the cam. I've tried downloading the driver directly from the manufacturer's website as I thought it might be a fault with the installation CD, but this didn't cure the problem. I'm following the correct process, installing the software before connecting the cam etc. I've also tried shutting down the anti-virus and firewall software before installing, but again, no success.
I am using XP Home fully updated with SP2 and the latest updates.
Can anyone offer any advice about this? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Best wishes,
Kevin

| Bandwidth Issue with Toshiba IK-WB11A Network Camera Dave C. 20:50:01 |
| | We have a Toshiba IK-WB11A network camera at our vacation cabin in Big Bear which we use as a webcam. The camera is a self-contained webserver and we have a fixed IP address on a cable modem. The problem is when we have multiple people logged onto the camera it becomes too slow to be useful. Does anyone know how we can stream the image to our website and then "reflect" it back to the public without having everyone logged onto the camera itself.
Toshiba used to offer such a service through a contractor which went out of business, but no one else seems to have stepped up to replace them. Further, it was fairly expensive ($50/month), so we'd like to be able to do this on our own website. Any ideas?
Thanks.

| Public IP Addresses for WebCam? Billy 16:26:27 |
| | I need to find a public IP address for any webcam that I can type into the setup of a webcam viewer product for the Pocket PC called View Commander Mobile. I've loaded the trial on my PPC, but I do not yet have webcam setup on my host PC to view. I searched Google, Yahoo, etc and can't find any listings for this. Can you help guide me where to find a public webcam IP address?
