| Getting out of market HD broadcasts Steve Dell 01:33:32 |
| | I live in the northwest section of Tucson AZ. Most of the transmitters for the TV stations are blocked by mountains to get to my residence.
I applied for a variance thru DirecTV. All that came back approved was ABC which I now get thru the west coast feed. What is the trick to get the rest of these since antennae will not work where I'm located.

| Series 2 HD recovery Dgtlshdw@Gmail.Com 21:47:51 |
| | Hello, all,
My TiVo series 2 box just bit the dust. It's been stuck in 'Pending Restart' now for a few weeks, and so has not been able to download program information. After calling TiVo, they told me that the hard drive was bad, and so now I've got a replacement box on the way. However, I have a dilemna; I've been saving about 20 episodes of a serial on my box, and I'd like to be able to dump them. TTG isn't working, so I'm wondering if I can mount the TiVo HD in one of my Linux machines and retrieve the episodes. Can anyone tell me if this is possible?
Much thanks, Kevin

I was just wondering if a raw mpeg4 bitstreams contains timestamps or if it's just the container format that has timestamps?

| skipping while recording Fjqurs 06:04:12 |
| | just received a new tivo. had the same problem with another one.
after recording a show when playing it back, the tivo recording seems to have skipped certain spots in the show. kind of a jerky recording. on my last one it was some channel, lets say A, and on the new one it is channel B.
i know it is not the cable box because if i bypass the tivo everything is ok.
any ideas?

| Putting two tivos on the home network... Dg 05:49:10 |
| | Set up a wireless Tivo connection with two Tivos and our home network of three computers.
D-Link WBR-1310 Router was new and has four ethernet ports and a wireless receiver.
There was some difficulty in that Tivo only seems to use WEP and 64 bit Hex Shared Keys. Doesn't say that in the documentation.
We can now do Tivo > Tivo, Tivo > Computer and computer files(music, pictures, etc) > Tivo
Easy to do and quite rewarding having more access to the computer and TV shows.

| AC3 -> PCM duration gets longer Dimitri 00:22:47 |
| | My brother recorded a tv show for me, that I wanted to edit for making a DVD. I ripped the recorded DVD to separate audio and video files. Then I wanted to edit the AC3 audio file, so I converted it to PCM. Can anyone explain me why the duration changed? The AC3 was about 43 minutes, and the PCM more than 45 minutes. I tried several AC3 editors, but all of them showed this problem. The source TV-system was PAL, so was the destination, and also the samplerate was 48 kHz in source and destination.

| HD Camcorder Stevie 18:06:51 |
| | Not sure if this is the right newsgroup but here goes:
I am considering buying a Sony HD Camcorder and I have a question in regard to DVD burning: If I record in HD can I transfer to my PC and be able to play back with the same quality. The same question applies to DVD burning. If image is burned to DVD will the origianl quality be played back on player?
Thanks Steve

| LCD Screen Programmable Remote question Mindesign 05:38:25 |
| | Hi again all
Am wondering how good the latest offering of Chinese LCD touchscreen remotes are...... have seen numerous offerings on eBay but it's all a bit onfusing - I have owned various ones several years ago and while all had their benefits, each had its limitations for example, they wouldn't learn one of my TV's codes etc.
Am just wondering if there is a remote out there - even a brand name I guess - that can do the following:
Large screen size - more like a 5 inch screen than a large mobile phone screen Learn practically every basic function from up to 8 devices change icons on the touch screen to suit the piece of equipment have downloadable software/firmware upgrades allow icons to be imported via PC etc. fully support renaming of controls built in rechargeable battery .... or if regular batteries, doesn't die after 3 weeks like the old Sony one I had
I am sure I could come up with other needs but this would be a good start
any info gratefully received
Steve

| Tips for transferring avi to dvd? Guest 04:23:32 |
| | Hi,
I have a Panasonic PV-GS250 camcorder that produces great quality AVI files. The files are big (6GB for about 30 mins of footage) in case this makes a difference. I need to burn them to DVD, but the Panasonic software doesn't seem to have this option.
After looking around for a while, I paid $30 for a DVD creation product called "Movie DVD Maker" by a company called "aone-media", but I'm really disappointed by the quality of the resulting DVD. I would expect some loss of quality, of course, but the image is really pixelated and jumpy and has tiny blck horizontal lines that appear for an instant then disappear. When the scene shifts from something light to dark or if there's a lot of movement, the effects are way worse. The overall effect is essentially unwatchable, way worse than my old analog camcoder.
Anyway, there must be a straightforward way of getting an AVI file to DVD, mustn't there? Any advice on which way to head from here much appreciated...
Thanks.
