| Advice needed re: adding DVD to sight/sound system One4All 05:23:22 |
| | I want to add DVD capability to my current system, which has a Panasonic PV-9661 VCR, and a Yamaha CDC-765 multi-disc CD player, among other things. My TV is a JVC AV-27050 (27"). Yes, the VCR and CD player are "old" machines, but I'd like to keep them because I have VHS tapes from the past, and the CD player, I think, still has much life left.
I want to add a DVD player, but am concerned whether my VCR & TV have the connections that would allow me to connect a second source to either of them. My TV has one co-axial input port, which is occupied by the cable connection. However, it does have an S-Video connector & am wondering if the DVD player could be connected this way. I don't think the VCR solves the problem, as it has one cable input & one cable output to the TV, no S-Video capability.
What I'm saying is, I have one set of components for sound & another set for video, & I don't know the best way to go to integrate DVD, since it deals in both.
If this is the wrong NG for this question, I'd appreciate advice as to the right one.

| Specifying input list for Nero version 6 or 7 Guest 01:59:00 |
| | Hello,
We use Nero Burning Rom version 6 quite a bit for burning backups of data files. Is there a way with the Windows interface to import a list of files/folders into the program. Or is there a way to create a NRI ISO compilation (.NRI) file? I know there is the Nero SDK available, with the NEROCMD, but it doesn't seem to be as robust as the Windows version.
Thanks.

| DVD menu for movie selection Tnguyen 00:03:09 |
| | I have several DVDs (old movies) that are only up to 2GB a piece and would like to combine, possibly 3 disks into one. Is there a freeware application that can help me to create a menu for selection between movies? I will use DVD Shrink to rip just movie title from each DVD, and then combine them with menu and reauthor into one DVD. Any help would be great. Thanks.

| VRO to AVI file conversion problem Ricky from Eastenders 23:48:00 |
| | I'm using FlaskMPEG (v0.7.8 I think - recently downloaded) to convert VRO video files created by my Panasonic DVD Recorder on DVD-RAM disks to AVI files for further editing.
When I import the converted AVI files into my video editing software (Vegas 6) I get just the audio track and no video track. I suspect that it is a codec setting causing the problem. Before I try and experiment with all the available options (are there lots of them), has anyone succeeded in doing this and what settings did you use?
Cheers,

| Tivo vs DVR and Media Center Guest 19:17:04 |
| | 1. It seems that Tivo is the easiest when recording with season pass, by keywords (example: all shows about surfing).
However, when recording tivo programs to DVD, it can be really troublesome? (transfer it wirelessly, transcode it, burn it to DVD-R)
2. So the DVD-R DVR is the easiest with recording as a DVD, but it is not so good with season pass and keywords yet?
3. and the third solution, it seems, is the PC Media Center, including the HP z556 and Sony's XL2... but they can be a bit troublesome when needing to make into a DVD. (transcoding, burn. the transcoding can be slow)
so we have solution 1, 2, and 3, and we don't have a good solution yet.
Tivo with a DVD recorder built in might be the best, but then, the Humax is said to have some image problems and Toshiba's model is no longer available.
Is there really a good solution really?

But what should be the size of the images you use for the menus?
In DVD Lab Pro it's 720x540 for PAL and NTSC.
What's the size in DVD Maestro? Just 720x480?

| Problems with DVD shrink Frel 13:36:24 |
| | I've been trikng to copy an entire DVD using DVD shrink 3.2 but found I had to use Re-Author instead of Full Disc. I dont think it's all it's cracked up to be. I got the main movie down and burnt okay but there are a lot of extras on this DVD iin particular that I'd like to copy as well. I'm satisfied with splitting them up so that it's not all on one DVd but when I go to buffer one of theses extras it crashed with a cyclic redundancy check.
Any help available would be good, TIA, Frel

| spontaneous generation ? Td_ 13:30:14 |
| | I created an audio CD from 29 mp3 files.
I lost the mp3 sources so I decided to use AudioGrabber to compress the 29 songs of my audio CD into - I expected - 29 mp3 files. Most surprizingly, I actually discovered not 29 but 34 mp3 files as a result of this extraction. The 5 odd files are totally unknown to me. As there were no tag identification, the odd mp3 files are simply named like "track 12-1" (as an example)
What happened ?

Set against the futuristic landscape of totalitarian Britain, V for Vendetta tells the story of a mild-mannered young woman named Evey (Portman) who is rescued from a dire situation by a masked vigilante (Weaving) known only as "V." Incomparably charismatic and ferociously skilled in the art of combat and deception, V ignites a revolution when he detonates two London landmarks and takes over the government-controlled airwaves, urging his fellow citizens to rise up against tyranny and oppression. As Evey uncovers the truth about V's mysterious background, she also discovers the truth about herself - and emerges as his unlikely ally in the culmination of his plot to bring freedom and justice back to a society fraught with fear, cruelty and corruption.

| Convert .VOB to .AVO Guest 09:29:29 |
| | Hello,
I have a home made DVD of some VHS taped material that converted.
The DVD works fine. I want to extract some clips. So I converted the .vob files with a program called WinAVI. It made the VOB file into an .avi.
I then used Vegas Video to cut the clip portion I wanted - but that section is not visible - it just shows a blank area. I tried VideoRedo - same issue.
Why can I view this on the DVD fine, but not convert it to an .mpeg or .avi that I can edit?
Suggestions on what to do?
Thanks,
Tmuld.

| Motorised Mount for LCD Projector Guest 07:40:37 |
| | Hi All
I have a Panasonic AE900 projector. In my "Theatre Room" I DO NOT want to mount the unit on the ceiling, but have some way of raising and lowering a platform with the projector on it. When not in use, I want to put it up into the ceiling (I have plenty of room and it would have a special box to keep the dust, etc out of it).
Are there any plans around to be able to make the raise/lower platform, or is there a ready made motorised system around?
Any help/info would be greatly appreciated it.
Thanks, Robert

| Downloaded .avi without spund? FatKat 03:36:23 |
| | I've downloaded what appearts to be a good .avi file of this British sci-fi show. The file is 350 MB and it's about an hour long. However, there's no sound. WinAMP, RP & WMP will play the fiile without crashing but silent. I tried extracting the sound using Virtualdub, which creates a 67 mb file...that doesn't sound like anything. I ran the file through G-spot which says that the sound is AC, and that the proper codecs are installed, however, even on G-Spot preview, the video part plays silently.
So does this mean that the file is definately missing sound - am I missing something? Suggestions appreciated.

| My DVD JohnA 22:41:22 |
| | Hi,
I happen to own MyDVD as part of EMC 8. I notice that Tivo recommends My DVD as part of MyDVD Studio 6.1.3. Does anyone know if both versions work the same? I have used MyDVD from EMC 8 and the results were very poor - even when I edited the output to fit 1 or 2 hours on 1 DVD. Would trying the Studio version be a waste of time?
