| HELP: checking quality of copied DVD with Nero Just 06:29:08 |
| | I have bought a 25 pack of EMTEC DVD +R which were giving me problems with my previous DVD writer (a compatibility problem, I think).
Now that I have a new DVD writer, I just copied an EMTEC DVD and would like to run a full test to confirm quality of copying.
From the Help of Nero: "ScanDisc is a function which will show you the quality of a disc. The test consists of two parts, the File Test which simply reads all files on the disc and reports all errors. This test can also be used for benchmarking to give you an idea on how well the drive performs with for example software installing. The Surface Scan checks the quality of each sector and shows the results in a graph".
However, if I go to Nero CD-DVD Speed / ScanDisc it seems that I can only test the Surface Scan. Nowhere can I find a File Test. This test is also necessary for my purpose, right?
What is my best approach to confirm quality of copying with Nero? I have: - Nero 6.6.1.4 - Nero CD-DVD Speed 4.11
I read somewhere that DvdinfoPro could do the job. But I would like to avoid installing another program if I can do what I need within Nero.
Any advice would be appreciated.

| Where can i buy 16 ohm Surround souund speakers from? Gyro 03:48:32 |
| | At the rear of our hifi there's outputs for surround sound speakers but the manual says to use 16 ohm surround speakers.
What would happen if i connected 8 ohm speakers to those outputs? because 8 ohm speakers are easy to find.
Btw, i'm in Perth but ordering online is fine. The speakers can't be to big because it's all got to fit into a bookshelf type entertainment unit. Say, 25cm wide x 30cm high x 25cm deep, or there abouts for each speaker.
cheers.

| Remote Access Bill Hogsett 02:10:57 |
| | I would like to put the Tivo in a basement and control it from the living room using a "infrared enhancer" if there is such a thing. The house is under construction so I can run whatever wiring might be needed and install any hardware that would be needed.
Does anyone have any experience with a project like this? What was used? What are the pros and cons?
Thanks.

| Dark background GuessWho 20:20:50 |
| | I have an Athlon64 system with a 8x AGP nVidia GeForce4 MX series card outputting to Sony CRT monitor set at 1024x768 and 32 bit color.
I don't watch a lot of videos on the computer but I've noticed that during dark scenes the picture is so dark that you can't make out background detail.
I've been noticing it with my TV tuners also. I have 2 different tuners and 2 different software packages. I have the same problem. The background is so dark that I can't make out any detail.
Both cards work with one of the software packages but I don't see any difference no matter which card and/or software combination I use.
I've tried all the display adjustments but nothing seems to change on the videos or TV. Internet and program material look great with the default display setting but deteriorates when I adjust brightness, contrast, gamma etc. much beyond the default settings. I've also tried changing the display settings with no effect.
Could someone suggest what I might be overlooking?
TIA,
Wayne

| Can you change the drive without an old drive Scooby Jones 17:51:38 |
| | I have bought a broken tivo off eBay. The guy who sold it to me said the drive was dead.
When I boot it up i get to the "Nearly There. Wait a few more seconds please" page and it just stays there.
I have done some reading and it seems that I need to make a backup image from the broken drive onto a new drive. As the current one is broken I wondered is there a way of setting up a new drive without an old one?
Many thanks in advance for your help.

Carl.

| DVD+R discs... does quality matter? Mexican Equivalent 11:38:18 |
| | I realize that not all DVD+R discs are created equal. Some brands turn into coasters while being burned. Others are already coasters out of the box.
However, assuming I have successfully burned data into a DVD+R disc, does it really matter what kind of disc I had used? Are cheap discs significantly more susceptible to data degradation, scratches, and so forth? I had always assumed that a "good quality" DVD+R brand simply meant that the company's manufacturing process was very realiable, meaning there were less un-useable discs in a brand new pack.

| trouble using hp cd-writer 8230e Shoemakerted@Yahoo.Com 04:27:03 |
| | Hello,
My wife recently bought a hp cd-writer 8230e, used. I installed it on my machine (running windows 98SE), and it burned a CD-RW just fine. When I tried to burn a CD-R soon after, it gave the following responses: 1. First it requires that I format the CD. Okay, I don't think that's a problem. 2. Then it says it's finished, and the only option it gives me is to eject the disk. Whether I eject it or not . . . 3a. If I try to read or write the disk using the HP software, it says it can't read the CD, and runs ScanDisk (its own, not Windows. Then HP ScanDisk gives this error message: This is not a DirectCD disk. Scan Disk will not continue. 3b. On the other hand, if I try to read or write from Windows Explorer (which the readme says it is supposed to do), I get this: cannot create or replace disk. Access is denied.
I suspect that I've made a simple mistake somewhere. Got any suggestions?
Thank you very much!

| burn a dVD with TiiVo recording? Rich 02:21:32 |
| | I've got my network setup. I used Tivo to Go and transferred a couple of golf lessons to my Windows XP folder "TiVo recordings".
1. can I burn a DVD with this golf lesson? 2. IF I can..what program do I have to use to "start the burn"?
I can burn CD's but I don't seem to be able to find whatever program might be on my computer to use to burn a DVD.
My computer says it has a "Double layer DVD+-R/RW and CD/RW combo drive les you archive and transfer up to 8.5 GB on convenient , portable DVD's and CDs."
So, I think I have the mechanical capability to do it, but I don't know what program to use to burn a DVD. I have "real player" but that program seems to only PLAY and not RECORD. Any help appreciated. thanks RG

| Captured video to a dvd Patch 00:09:15 |
| | Hi, I am trying to get my home movies from a mini-dv to to dvd so I can play on any home dvd player. I have captured the video as .avi files using Nero. I now have several .avi files that are about 20GB each. I was wondering the best way to get these into a format that dvd players read (I believe mpg2) and how to these large files on to a dvd that only holds 4-8GB. Will I need a program to split these files or when they go to mpeg2 will they compress to a reasonable size?

Just tried DVDFab and asked it to reduce the quality so that the eventual size is 1GB. Instead, the program produced files listed below. What the heck are those files and do I need them all?
Thanks!

What gives?
