Nero Vision 4 problem Kenneth R 06:39:38
I`m a newbie and I like to use Nero Vision because it is easy to use.

However, I`m not to pleased with the finished result; every second or so the
film freezes for a fraction of a second and I find this very annoying.

Is there anything I can do?

Cheers, Ken

Dual-Tuner TiVo Question Kerplunk 03:43:19
I have a few of the S2 TiVos and am going to order a new DT Tivo to
replace one of my older S2s. Since the Dual Tuner can record two shows
at the same time...is it possible for the record to record one show
while we watch another (and access the usual TiVo programming guide
functions)? With the S2 I'd flip over to the regular cable input,
however I'm wondering if this is no longer necessary with the DT TiVo.
Can anyone shed some light on this?

Problems with Nero overwriting files Undertheweather 03:02:49
Can anyone please help me with the following problem.

I am currently backing up my monthly files onto DVD using Nero
StartSmart 6. Every time I save the next months folder onto my DVD it
overwrites the previous folders.

For example:

In January I saved my folder as: "Januarybackup" and then in Feb, as
the folder I used was changed I saved it as "Febbackup" All of the
files within both folders which have the same name are overwritten by
the new files! I don't understand why?

So lets say that in Jan's folder there is a html file called
"NEWS.html" when I save the Feb folder (which also has a "NEWS.html"
file it overwrites the January one. I can't understand why it does
this.

Thanks

Tivo 2 Tivo transfer speed? Douglas Bolt 02:34:34
How fast should one expect transfer of a recording on one Tivo to
another be using USB adapters with wired Ethernet between two series 2
units that are not otherwise recording or playing? Both Tivo units have
been upgraded with 7200 RPM Hitachi drives.

I have to wait for a several minutes to start playing, if I want to
program to play without stopping.

Is there any practical solution to this problem?

Loss of connectivity of new TIVO to other TIVO's Don Naegele 02:28:32
 Hi.

Pardon the long message but I wanted to be as detailed as possible.

I'm having connectivity issues with my brand new Series 2 TIVO.

I've had two Series 2 TIVO's (240 'series' for lack of the right term) for
just over two years now. Last year in May 2005 I replaced my wireless
network adapters with D-Link DWL-G122 (H/W Ver. A2 F/W Ver. 1.02). They
have worked without incident since then for transferring recorded shows
between the two units, and between the units and my wired PC and wireless
notebook PC. I primarily transfer to my living room for viewing.

About three weeks ago I purchased a new Series 2 Single Tuner TIVO (540
'series' for lack of the right term) to used as a third unit in my bedroom.
I took one of the D-Link DWL-G122 wireless network adapters from my home
office and placed it on this new TIVO. I then hardwired the Home Office
unit to my router, which happens to be a D-Link DI-634M (that's been in use
since March 2006 - BIOS 1.02, the latest).

Note. All three TIVOs are using the same software version
7.3.1-oth-01-2-140.

Six days ago I was transferring files from the new TIVO (540 whatever) to my
living room unit (240 whatever) and went to bed. When I awoke in the
morning and turned the Living Room TIVO on I noticed the transfer was still
in progress. Then I noticed I could no longer see the NEW Bedroom TIVO in
my list of TIVO's at the bottom of Now Playing, but I could 'see' the Home
Office unit.. I went into the home office and pulled up Now Playing and
also could not 'see' the Bedroom TIVO, but could 'see' the Living Room TIVO.
I then rebooted the Bedroom TIVO and then the all three units could see each
other. I was then able to successfully transfer the shows from the Bedroom
TIVO to the Living Room unit.

Four days ago the same thing happened. A transfer between the Bedroom TIVO
and the Living Room TIVO died somewhere twelve minutes in. This time I
followed the instructions on the TIVO website. I pulled up the Network
Setting and could see the IP address and MAC address of the unit. The
Bedroom unit could NOT see the others again. I pulled the wireless network
adapter out, waited fifteen seconds, and then placed it back in. I could
see the IP address disappear and then reappear, as well as the MAC address.
I was then able to see the other TIVOs and they could see the Bedroom TIVO.
I restarted the transfers and everything worked.

Last night while transferring another program from the Bedroom unit to the
Living Room also locked up during transfer. Unplugging and re-plugging the
wireless network adapter fixed the problem. The transfer worked fine this
time.

Is anyone else having a similar issue?

It's so frustrating to me since I NEVER once had this problem with my first
two TIVO's using the same wireless network adapters. Could this just be
another bug in the latest 7.3.1 software? I've even rebooted my router the
last two times the problem occurred in case it was 'losing' the Bedroom TIVO
BEFORE I tried unplugging and re-plugging the network adapters, and this
does nothing. The only fix is to do the unplug and re-plug thing.

I'm going to call TIVO in the morning to see what their thoughts are. I
must admit that I've never had any luck finding solutions to other problems
with their Technical Support. I always have to come to the TIVO forums to
get help. They are mostly clueless about obvious 'bugs' that other users
know too much about. They just take down notes and say they have no
solution and end the call. And of course always ask me to take their
customer survey before I leave.

Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions.

Recomendations for DVD Editing/Authoring Software Bill 01:17:03
I've looked around a bit and haven't come up with a definate answer to the
following question. I have a Sony DVD recorder that does not have a hard
drive in it so editing out things like commercials and extra junk at the
ends and beginnings of shows is impossible. I'd like to be able to copy the
DVD to my pc and do one of two things to it. One: edit out commercials and
junk from the shows and reburn to another DVD using the same Menuing system
the Sony DVD recorder already has in place. Two: Copy just the show files
to the PC and edit them and burn them to a new DVD with a completely new
menu system. I've tried several things in passing and it seems that
everytime I try to convert the DVD to some other format to edit I wind up
with audio problems so I was trying to edit the VOB files using a demo copy
of Mpeg-VCR which seems to work but I'm not sure how to go about getting
these edited files back on a DVD. Can someone point me in the direction of
either a one stop solution i.e. rip,copy/edit/burn or maybe a simple 2 or
three step concept, rip/copy with one program, edit with another and finally
compile and burn with a third. Can anyone help?
Thanks

Bill

Microsoft shows off HD-DVD drive for Xbox 360 AirRaid 22:15:24

LOS ANGELES--Microsoft on Monday offered the first glimpse of an
external HD DVD drive built for the Xbox 360 game console.

Kevin Collins, senior program manager at Microsoft, demonstrated the HD
DVD drive, which he said is scheduled to hit store shelves for the
upcoming holiday shopping season, to attendees of the DVD Forum here.

The device--about the size of a hardback book--played "The Phantom of
the Opera" as Collins pulled up a menu bar to display a few of its
navigation and interactive features that can be called up on screen
while a movie is playing. Collins said Microsoft's HD DVD drive will be
among the least expensive of the HD DVD players, but he declined to
disclose the drive's retail price.

"All the audio and video processing is done inside the Xbox," said
Collins, who noted that research has shown that a majority of Xbox
owners already own high-definition displays. An Xbox drive provides
them with all the other equipment they need to watch HD DVD movies, he
said.

"This gives consumers choice and keeps their cost down," Collins said

Microsoft has chosen to back the HD DVD format over Blu-ray. Both
technologies are vying to replace the DVD format and are represented by
consortiums that include electronics makers and Hollywood studios.

Video game machines may prove to be a crucial battleground for the two
formats, some observers predict.

In November, Sony's PlayStation 3 is expected to debut equipped with a
Blu-ray drive. In contrast to Microsoft's strategy to go with an
external drive, PlayStation's drive will be built in.

HR10-250 ( HD Tivo ) usage question Jack Snodgrass 20:29:01
First of all... this thread SPECIFICLY deals with the
existing, HR10-250 HD Tivo and it's day to day usage.
Please don't hi-jack this thread with a MythTV or S3
HD posts....

I'm thinking of getting a HR10-250 Tivo for my new
living room HDTV ( future purchase ) I know that the
HD Tivo is a DirectTV Tivo but I am not really
interested in the DTV HD Programming packages. I
think that the only HD stuff I'd record would be
local, OTA ( fox, abc, nbc, cbs, pbs, etc ) shows
that don't use the Satellite feeds. I'm also assuming
that when / if DTV goes to MPEG4 for their feeds, the
OTA part of the HR10-250 Tivo will still function...

If I get the DTV HD Tivo, do I HAVE to pay the
extra $12 per month for the HD programming or
can I pay the $6 per month for basic Tivo service?
If I have to get the $12 HD Programming... does that
include the Tivo service or is the HD Tivo going to
cost an additional $18 per month?

I assume that either their $12 HD package or the
$6 basic Tivo package will provide the HD Tivo
with the HDTV TV guide type features so I can
see what is coming up on my local HD OTA channels.
Do the OTA stations 'seamlessly' merge with the DTV
channels in the guide, season passes, search, etc
functions?

On the subject of upgrade hacks for a HD Tivo...
Can you do the basic hacks such as install 2, 300Gig
hard drives?

I believe the the latest software update for the HD
Tivo gave it folder support. Is that correct?

I have my two DTV SD Tivos networked, folders enabled
and the HMO / MRV hack installed so I can transfer shows
between the two DTV SD Tivos.... what kind of network
hacks are available for the HD Tivos if you have 2 or
more HD Tivos on your home network?

Would appreciate any useful info that people have on
this.

Thanks - jack

How to use Nero to check quality of copied DVD? Just 15:26:06
 From Nero help:
"ScanDisc is a function which will show you the quality of a disc.
The test consists of two parts, the File Test which simply reads all
files on the disc and reports all errors. This test can also be used
for benchmarking to give you an idea on how well the drive performs
with for example software installing.
The Surface Scan checks the quality of each sector and shows the
results in a graph".

However, if I go to Nero CD-DVD Speed / ScanDisc it seems that I can
only test with Surface Scan. Nowhere can I find a File Test. This test
is also necessary for checking the quality of a copied DVD, right??

What is my best approach to confirm quality of a DVD copy with Nero?
I have:
- Nero 6.6.1.4
- Nero CD-DVD Speed 4.11

I have read somewhere that DvdinfoPro could do the job. But I would
like to avoid installing another program if I can do what I need
within Nero.

Tks.

Stupid Question about DVD-RW Mexican Equivalent 06:14:56
I've never had problems writing to CDRs before. I often use Windows
Explorer or Nero Express to handle the burning.

If I'm writing to a DVD-RW instead,are there special procedures and/or
software that I need to use?

I've tried using NeroVision Express to create a video DVD out of my
blank DVD-RW. The process always failed, and turned my DVD-RWs into
coasters that can't be erased or even recognized by my computer. Any
idea what I'm doing wrong?
