WinDVD output format

Don 6 December 2004 09:59:58
I have WinDVD Creator 2.0 that came bundled with my notebook. I can't
seem to select DVD as the file format output under MAKE MOVIE in the
Creator software. I only have the VCD option.

The notebook has a DVD+RW drive and I've tried both +R and +RW DVDs.
I've also experimented with importing mpg, avi, and other formats as
well as various size files from very small (few minutes) to large (few
hours) and none of these combinations seem to make a difference.

I do have an external DVD writer that will write +R, +RW, -R, -RW
formats, but I can't seem to find anywhere in the Creator
configuration where to route output to a specific drive.

Well, I just figured out how to select my external drive. I just
never got to that point before since I couldn't get past the first
problem. But even using my external drive that reads and writes to
all formats, I can't choose the DVD output format. I tried using the
VCD format anyway to see what would happen, but I get an error that
the format is the wrong match as would be expected.

If it was a bundle, Intervideo most likely crippled the capabilities in an
attempt to force you to upgrade. You can contact Intervideo customer support
here:

And here is a FAQ for WinDVD Creator.

The external writer does not have to be present for WinDVDCreator2 to be
able to create DVD format files. It will create them to the hard drive. In
this instance Ivronovich seems to have hit upon the problem and that is that
the version supplied with your laptop is a feature limited version designed
to work with the laptop's internal CD writer only. Did you not get a DVD
creating software package with your external writer (maybe another version
of WinDVDCreator)?

The external came with Sonic MyDVD which is working for me. I just
wanted to compare the output with Creator. I think the suggestion
that as a bundled software, Creator is limited is probably correct. I
can't be positive, but I think it did write to DVD at one time. Maybe
that was just a 30-day eval period. Frankly, Sonic MyDVD seems to be
doing great so I'll be fine with that.

Thanks,

Don
