 Could someone please explain the difference between DVD decrypter and
Slysoft Any DVD....why would someone need to use both programs...or should

DvdDecrypter will copy a CSS encrypted DVD in ISO or FILE mode to the
hard drive. It will also burn DVD's very reliably with a good verify
mode. Due to legal action reportedly by Macrovision, the freeware
Decrypter is no longer supported but is still widely available and
highly recommended.

Several new anti-RIP technologies have emerged from most notably
Macrovision and Sony: RipGuard and ARccOS respectfully. Basicaly these
put bad sectors on the DVD that are ignored by players but give rippers
trouble. The freeware program FixVts from Jeanl will repair a DVD
ripped by DvdDecrypter and allow it to be read by DvdShrink. FixVts is
reletively new and has been upgraded regularly.

AnyDVD is a $40 backgroud program that acts as a driver for your DVD
player, defeating the CSS encryption on the DVD. There is a freeware
program that works similarly, DVD43. AnyDVD is continually updated to
defeat the latest bad sectors.

You don't need both. Having DvdDecrypter/FixVts­ is free, so it doesn't
cost you and you get a good burning program. It is best not to use
DvdDecrypter when AnyDVD is running, from reports. Many use
DvdDecrypter and FixVts and save themselves $40.

Many are happy to fork over $40 for the reliable update service and the
fact that this company exists to help people back up their investments,
make a DVD for the kids in the back of the van that doesn't have 20
menu choices, make a DVD to travel with that if it gets lost or damaged
their good movie won't be lost (many Disney films are discontinued for
sale after only a few months, not available for damaged replacement at
a resonable cost).
