Copying commercial DVDs to dvdr

Guest 16 February 2006 08:54:34
I'd like to hear how the more tech savvy users make digital copies of
commercial DVDs which are protected by Macrovision. I can digitally copy
unprotected DVDs using Nero Express. I can make a real time copy of
protected DVDs by going from Apex player to Ilo DVDR05 through the S-Video
connection.

What's the best way to make a digital copy on the fly, playing on my LTD-163
DVD-ROM to my LG-4163 burner. I have DVD Shrink, DVD Fab Decrypter, and the
last version of DVD Decrypter, but I've never used them.

I'd like to get a feel for the recommended method used by the experts on
these newsgroups before plowing in.

Thank you very much,

Norm Strong

DVD Fab Decrypter, DVD Shrink, Nero 6 combination is what works best here.

You dont make digital copies on the fly. You need to rip, then burn a new
copy from the rip....its completely unwise to try to copy disks on the fly,
any hiccups and you have a brand new coaster....

Use DVDShrink. It is fast, on-the-fly and works by using Nero to burn
it afterwards. Oh, and it's free.

One DVD copied in 1hour

Hello,
I often find the problem that the DVD has really a lot of "read errors".
DVDShrink stops at the first read error. DVDDecrypt can ignore this errors
and go on (but I did not try it). Probably this errors are a kind of
copy-protection. Could you help me, please?

That's why you need AnyDVD running in the background. DVD Decrypter
is an old program and errors out on most of the newer copy protection
schemes cooked up by the movie companies. AnyDVD basically strips all
the protection from the disc before it is read by other programs. So
that way DVD Decrypter does not see the protection schemes anymore.
DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink are not updated anymore, and haven't been
for over a year or more. AnyDVD gets updated everytime a new
protection sheme pops up. It was updated last week I believe. AnyDVD
is from Slysoft.com. You can try it for 21 days for free before buying.

If AnyDVD descrypts the DVD, why does one then need to run DVD Decrypter
at all?

In my experience, you don't. I start AnyDVD(runs in backround) and then
start the disc copy module in my burning software(RoxioEMC8). When the
DVD has copied to the HD, I turn off AnyDVD, insert a blank DVD and let
the copy module finish copying. I've never had a failure.

I just like DVD Decrypter to put the DVD files on a folder on the HD.
No big deal. Plus it's very easy to use if you are doing ISO read and
writes from SL to SL or DL to DL. That's the only time I use DVD
Decrypter to actually burn a disc. Hey, if it works, why switch?

Does AnyDVD work with Nero 6.6.0.18 and Nero 7?
If I had it could I just use Nero all the time and get rid of Shrink &
Decrypter?

I think you still need a ripping app, made to do the ripping...Nero is not
meant to rip the contents of any dvd AFAIK...even with a helper app running
in the background...

AnyDVD works in the background, therefore it is transparent to other
applications. Applications just see an unprotected disc at that point.

If you like it then it's no problem, but the point someone is trying to
say that it's NO NEED. But whatever you replying to is another issue as you
didn't quote anything to know what you dislike about the other option (??).
