DVD Player software GuessWho 19:59:30
I've been using PowerDVD 5.0 and Roxio's CinePlayer to view DVDs on this
computer. PowerDVD has a 4x zoom feature and Roxio doesn't have any zoom
feature. The 4x is more than I want.

I'm looking for a computer DVD player that will allow me to zoom 16:9 DVDs
to fill a 4:3 display. It seems to me that I've seen one mentioned that
zooms in increments from 0.5x to around 2.5x but I can't find the reference.

I've tried WinDVD 7 and something else - which slips my mind now - but
neither of these had what I wanted.

I'm hoping that someone can provide a link or a possible player so I don't
keep blindly installing players.

TIA,

Wayne

DVD player - nasty quirk Linea Recta 19:22:17
I have a stand alone DVD player (Marquant 333K), which plays DVD and CD very
well.
There is only one very irritating problem. When I open the tray, 9 out of 10
times it closes again immediately. Sometimes it remains open for a while,
only to close randomly again by itself, so without pressing any button!
Today this resulted in a DVD, which I was about to insert, being jammed and
getting damaged!
For the time being I just hold the tray open by hand while removing /
inserting media to keep the it from closing treacherously and potentially
damaging my precious discs.
What could be the cause of this? Remedies?
Or do I drive over it with the car and buy another player?

Specialized Request.... Amused 18:03:57
 Background:

I'm involved with a small, (ultra-small) community TV station. We use a
computer to feed a RF modulator that pumps the signal to a regional cable
station and then it's resent out to the community.

We're using NERO to play the video's.

Does anyone know of any type of scheduling software to control when the
various videos are played? Any help would be appreciated...

WMP10 & TIVO Files? Cathy 03:39:22
I am trying to watch .TIVO files which have been sent to my PC via TivoToGo
(v2.3) using Windows Media Player 10 (after clicking "play" in TivoToGo).
WMP10 appears to load the file, then I get an error message asking if I want
to send the error to Microsoft.

Am I missing something? Is there another program I can use to watch with?

Problem with PowerDVD Ballboy 00:19:52
 Hi guys and gals,

I have recently got my PC repaired (for a bust heat sink and processor)
and since I have had it back, every time I go to play a DVD one of two
things happen:

If I try through Media Player I am told I have no DVD decoder,
If I try through PowerDVD (the DVD decoder I have) my computer
restarts!

Now I have played DVDs through both ways before so it seems strange it
won't work now. I can play CDs through the DVD drive and this works
but not DVDs.
The Windows detect and repair function says that my DVD drive is
working correctly.
Any ideas?

The DVD-ROM I have is an LG HL_DT_ST DVD ROM GDR8161B

Thanks!!

Sure. Just set your 'recorder' to Image Recorder.

Expert on Nero, Mikey?

I'm sure it's possible in Nero

Could it be that you could not burn Enhanced CD with Nero, Mikey?

Could not figure out why Nero would not offer the option to burn
the audio in SAO, Mikey?

dvd shrink compress question Aaronep@Pacbell.Net 18:10:16
I am using DVD Shrink vsn 3.2. in the REAUTHOR mode i am attempting to
place two movies whose total space is well over 6 mb. I do understand
that quality will be lost if I compress both titles so that they total
not more than 4.4 mb.

My question is, however, do I cause the compression to reduce the size
of each title so that both titles will appear on a single disk?.
I have changed the COMPRESSION mode from AUTOMATIC to CUSTOM RATIO &
changed the number is the percent box to 50 % and pressed the return
key, but nothing happens.
I also move the slider to the right and that increases the % number,
but the red bar at the top increases, showing a higher number.

Quite obviously I am doing something wrong, but what is it?

best, Aaron

Sony burner media problems Karen 17:58:24
I have a Sony DW-G120A burner only a few months old. The first few DVD's I
burnt were on Verbatim DVD-R discs with no problems. Now I get a Nero
"Power calibration error" when trying to burn with a new pack of
Verbatim....although they work OK in another PC with a Pioneer burner. I
tried another brand and got the same error. Then I successfully burnt a
movie on a TDK DVD-RW which plays OK in the DVD player, but will not work in
the computer (and drive) that it was created in. "My Computer" will even
"stop responding" when trying to open this disc.
Is there a problem with this media in the Sony DW-G120A and if so, can
anyone recommend some that may work. The burner will burn CD's with no
problem. Why is it so fussy with the DVD media?

Karen

Help with Bypassing Subscription Dave 08:27:13
I just picked up a Series 2, 60 Hr Capacity from Ebay with 7.3.1 Software
and the Service number starts with 140.

We didn't subscribe to the Tivo Service and now it won't let us do anything
after the 6 day trial period had expired. Is there anyway to make it record
and watch TV channels without having to subscribe to the Tivo service?

Any alternatives to Roxio, etc.? Guest 08:25:43
I'm trying to find software that will allow me to rip CDs (classical)
and have the end product
not insert gaps between the tracks. Does anyone know if this is
available?

I know that you can tweak the transition times in most burning
software, but the machine I'm using
http://www.rimage.com/products_detail_objectname_pr_rimage_2000i.html
the software will burn the cd with gaps between tracks on titles that
didn't originally have gaps...unless i rip the original cd with their
propreitary software.
The only problem is that it takes about 8 mins to rip a 60 min cd using
their crappy software.

Does this sound like something that can be solved?

Thanks.

Random in the number of times this happens and duration. I have used a

DVD playback on my new Dell widescreen sucks Guest 01:08:34
I'm really dissapointed. I have a powerful CPU, NVidia 7800GT video
card and a Dell 20" widescreen monitor running 1600x1050. Why does
full screen DVD look so bad. I expected a really great picture, but it
doesn't take up all of the screen and the video is not at all crisp -
it is really soft.

I downloaded the NVidia DVD Decoder hoping that would help, but it
didn't really seem to make much of a difference.

Also, when playing in full screen, the video doesn't take up the entire
screen like I expected it to. There are bands all the way around the
screen.

Any insight into this would be appreciated.

Bob.

Season Pass (new Samsung, Season Pass missing episodes) John-USN 23:32:31
 Hello

Long story short.....I have a Direct TV 35hr Samsung in my living room, and
just received my 2nd 35hr Samsung for my family room. My current 35hr
TiVo works perfectly in all aspects. I just finished activating my 2nd
35hr Tivo, and, it works perfectly----except for Season Passes. For
instance, I set-up a Season Pass for "The Simpsons" (which is on twice a
night).........I set the Pass to record ALL EPISODES, and click
"SELECT"----then, I click on upcoming episodes and the Pass lists ZERO.
But, when I go to the guide, the episodes are there and I have to manually
record them.

Now, is this just a 1st day set-up glitch....and, after a 24hr period or so
the Season Pass will see all the episodes??? Or, is my TiVo messed up??
Not all Season Passes are incorrect.....mostly local channel Season
Passes......however, some Cable Network passes are also not accurate. I
have called into the TiVo service via the phone connection---as well as
unplugging the TiVo and plugging back in.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Regards, John

One tuner or two? David D. 23:07:07
The latest TiVo brand tuners (for cable; not satellite) can record two
programs at once.

I thought that that meant that they had two tuners, but the behavior of the
setup suggests that when recording two programs, it records one from the
TiVo tuner, and one from the cable-box tuner. Is that correct? One must
use the cable-box in order to record two simultaneous shows?

Making a movie using Nero John 20:51:58
I have managed to import some of my video from MiniDV via the DV out.
I am using Nero and am in the movie making section. I have added the
video and also music no problems.

I just wonder if it is possible to add a picture to the movie though?
So for example I could import a picture from My Pictures folder on my
computer and have it so that picture was displayed for 4 or 5 seconds?

Does anyone know how to do this as I can't seem to find a way of
importing a picture to the end of a video clip in the composition.

Thanks very much for any help

John
